I have upgraded a HP8120ca laptop to Windows 7. All the drivers have been updated but I have one nagging outstanding problem with the installation of the drivers associated with a Logitech c200 webcam. With the logitech sw drivers installed for the webcam, the laptop never wakes up after going asleep. It simply crashes. I have downloaded dump files to this forum and the consensus indicated that the logitech drivers were causing the problem. This is confirmed by simply unplugging the webcam. The laptop will cycle correctly through the sleep and re-awaken. I have done this several times.
I would like to replace the logitech webcam 200 drivers with the microsoft generic usb video driver but I am finding it impossible to do. I have uninstalled the Logitech Webcam SW (version 2) and the associated logitech webcam drivers. After rebooting, the system appears clean. There is no logitech webcam device identified in the device manager and no logitech SW listed in the programs portion of the control panel.
The generic Windows camera driver may have some limited functionality not offered by your camera manufacturers driver. If this is the case and the generic driver won't work for you, you should go to the manufacturers website and look for a viable Windows 10 driver. Starting in Windows 7, Microsoft has replaced the kernel mode component of the Windows Vista USB driver stack (Wpdusb.sys) for Windows Portable Devices (WPD) with the generic Winusb.sys. Microsoft provides the Wpdusb.sys driver to manage portable devices that support the Media Transfer Protocol. See WPD Design Guide. I got a small usb webcam from Qatar Airways. It has no brand name and XP doesn't find a driver for it. I've Googled all over and had no luck! Is there a generic driver for usb webcams?
If I plug in the webcam into a USB port, Windows will automatically install a device called the 'USB composite device' and will also install logitech webcam drivers. I get a window that comes up during this process to install the logitech webcam software version 2, which I say 'no' to. There is also a button to that says 'don't automatically install drivers' that once pressed doesn't seem to do anything. I get a notice that the logitech webcam drivers are installed. If I check the device manager, the 'USB composite device' is there but there is no mention or identification of the logitech drivers. Under driver details the MS file 'usbccgp.sys' file is identified, nothing else.
If I select 'uninstall device', its removed, but once i replug the webcam in, it simply repeats what happened above.
If I select update driver and then select 'pick a device from ..' and deselect the compatibility check box, i get a list of manufacturers. Under Microsoft, there are several entries, but not the one I am looking for - Microsoft's generic USB video driver contained within the file 'usbvideo.sys'. There appears no way to get Microsoft to install its own usb video driver. I have also tried to point the driver installation path to the Microsoft 'usbvideo.inf' file contained in the INF folder under Windows, hoping it would trigger the 'usbvideo.sys' file and driver install. Nothing happens.
How do I get Microsoft's usb video driver installed? Any help appreciated.
